# Third-party notices, sources and credits

This file documents third-party material and scientific sources used by
**Osservatorio - Sistema Solare**. The repository's MIT license applies to the
original source code. It does not relicense third-party images, data, fonts,
names, logos or trademarks.

This is an independent educational project. It is not affiliated with,
endorsed by, reviewed by, or sponsored by NASA, JPL, Caltech, ESA, IAU, Google,
IBM, or any mission or institution mentioned below.

## NASA and JPL media policy

NASA states that its media is generally available for educational and
informational use when used factually, NASA is acknowledged, and no endorsement
is implied. Some NASA pages may contain separately copyrighted third-party
material, which must be checked individually.

## Planet surface maps (axial rotation)

The textured spheres used to render each planet's axial rotation use
equirectangular (360°) surface maps. These are bundled in `assets/textures/`
and served locally by the project.

CC BY 4.0 permits use, redistribution and modification, including for
commercial purposes, provided the attribution above is preserved. The maps are
used unmodified except for runtime projection onto a sphere.

  The simulator uses the higher-accuracy 1800–2050 coefficients within that
  interval and the extended JPL model outside it, up to year 3000. Extended
  dates are explicitly marked in the interface as less accurate.

Numerical values and descriptions are educational summaries. Orbits, sizes and
distances are visually rescaled, and the application must not be used as a
precision ephemeris, navigation tool or authoritative scientific catalogue.

The project identifies the principal sources used to verify factual values.
Descriptive text in the application is original paraphrasing rather than copied
publication text.

Google Fonts states that its fonts are open source and may be used commercially.
The applicable font license remains the license shown on each font's specimen
page, commonly the SIL Open Font License. Google Fonts FAQ:

## Music

The musical feature is a code-generated, original synthetic arrangement
inspired by J.S. Bach's *Air* from Orchestral Suite No. 3, BWV 1068. The
underlying composition is in the public domain. The project does not contain or
reproduce a third-party audio recording.

## Privacy and external requests

The project contains no analytics, advertising, tracking pixels or first-party
cookies. It uses browser `localStorage` only to remember the selected language
and `sessionStorage` only to coordinate view transitions.

The current single-file version loads fonts from Google Fonts and planet images
from NASA-hosted servers. A visitor's browser therefore makes ordinary HTTPS
requests to those third-party services, which may receive standard connection
data such as IP address, user agent and referrer according to their own privacy
policies:

For deployments requiring all assets to remain first-party, the open-source
font files and permitted image copies can instead be self-hosted while
preserving their licenses and credit lines.

## Trademarks and names

NASA, JPL, Caltech, ESA, IAU, mission names and spacecraft names may be
trademarks or protected identifiers of their respective owners. They are used
only for factual identification and attribution. No affiliation, approval or
endorsement is claimed or implied.

## Corrections and takedown

If a credit is incomplete or a rights holder identifies material that should
not appear here, please open a repository issue with the specific item and
supporting ownership information. The material can then be corrected or
removed promptly.
